Craft x EDU Announces Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement with BrewGether

The Volunteer-Powered Organization will Advance Craft x EDU’s Strategic Priorities through it’s Efforts Help the Craft Beer Community to Distribute Resources to Nonprofit Organizations Supporting Urban Agriculture.

Craft x EDU announced on Friday, August 12, 2022, that it will become the fiscal sponsor for BrewGether, a community organization that highlights the synergies between urban agriculture and the craft beer industry. By volunteering, educating, and raising funds to provide grants to local farms and urban
agriculture initiatives, BrewGether aims to bring together craft beer and community.

“Craft x EDU is proud to be a fiscal sponsor of BrewGether and to support their unique mission as we lean into our transition from directly delivering programming to acting as a force multiplier for community organizers and small and emerging advocacy groups,” said Craft x EDU’s executive director J Jackson-Beckham. “

Under the agreement, BrewGether will become a Craft x EDU-sponsored project eligible for grants, and Craft EDU will accept tax-deductible contributions on behalf of the organization. Through direct donations and proceeds from the sale of craft beer collaborations, like Piano Keys stout brewed by Shapton and New Belgium, BrewGether supports local farms and nonprofit urban agriculture organizations by making capacity-building grants and organizing volunteer work days.

BrewGether’s founder, craft beer ambassador Ale Sharpton, sees numerous parallels between the craft brewing industry and agriculture. According to U.S. Department of Agriculture, less than 1 percent of American farms are Black-owned–the same percentage of Black ownership in the craft brewing industry. “We believe that communities want the best for themselves. However with navigating disinvestment, systemic racism, and lack of access to resources, many communities find themselves navigating a host of societal issues. However, research has shown that those closest to the issues are more likely to have solutions,” says Sharpton. “BrewGether supports small to mid-size community organizations that are working on those solutions in their communities.”
